Is Consulting Speech Therapist Going To Help Pronounce Certain Words And Start Conversation Due To Stroke ?

Hello doctor Its sanket from Goa. I had a history of stroke at the age of 19. I took treatment for 3 years & that problem has been completely cured. Now I am 25. Right from 8th standard I had a problem of uttering some common words. & the problem still persist. I am a stage actor but while I am on Stage I don t feel any difficulty in pronouncing any words but when I want to communicate with people my confidence automatically goes down & i struggle to start the conversation. Once I start then I can continue it with little bit difficulty in between. Even when I read anything sometime I can read with full confidence & without any difficulty in pronouncing words but most of the time this is not the case. Even starting conversation for attending a phone call, I struggle very much, sometimes it takes me 3 to 5 sec to say halloo !!! same problem when I go to answer to an Interview..... :( I am thinking of consulting a speech therapist. Is that a good idea? please help me out & tell me what can I do? Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and I am glad to now that you have made a good recovery from stroke.

Regarding speech-related problems, it is a good idea to consult a speech therapist, as this would definitely improve your speech.

In addiiton, I would also advise you to consult a psychologist for counselling to boost up your confidence levels.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.
