Is Collection Of Free Fluid In The POD A Matter Of Concern ?

Hi, my name is preety frm nigeria. I hv bin having pains within my abdomen and pelvics. I jst had an ultra sound scan,everything was normal except that some free fluid collection in the pod was visualized. Is there any problem with that? Kindly assist me.

Hi Preety,
In your case, the fluid in the pouch of douglas could be suggestive of pelvic inflammatory disease. This is an infection of the pelvic organs like uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries. The resultant inflammation leads to an accumulation of fluid in POD.
You will need a course of antibiotics like metronidazole, doxycycline and ciprofloxacin.
Please see a physician as soon as possible as this infection can impair your fertility if left untreated.
