Is Circumcision Advisable At The Age Of 82 For The Infection On The Penis?
my father is age 82 He was hospitalized 4months ago with a mild heart attack. He is not unable to walk or dress himself. He recently developed an infection because he is unable to properly clean the area around the penis. His doctor stated that he needs to be circumcised.
I want to know if the process is dangerous given his age and type of recovery to expect.
You are concerned about your father having a circumcision at the age of 82. This is a common occurrence and is usually a fairly benign procedure. The main reason for performing circumcision at this age is with the penis infection he may develop more urine infection and may also get so much swelling at the penis that he can no longer urinate. Both of these consequences to penile infection is dangerous.
The procedure is quick and if done properly will reduce his overall symptoms. Given his age and other medical conditions there will be slight risk but his overall recovery should be a few weeks. If these were my father I would discuss the risk and benefits very openly with his urologist so both you and your father are clear
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again for you questions
