Is Chest And Shoulder Pain Sign Of Withdrawal From Smoking?

Hi there, I would just like to say that I think this service you are offering to do is very caring, you must be good people, I am afraid I am having constant Chest pain/leftback/left shoulder/left armpit shooting arm pains for the past 2 years now, every single day. Some quick information about me: I am 20 years of age, I am male, I have a history of Benzodiazepam addiction but have now been clean for exactly 2 years. I used to smoke a lot of cigarettes as well as cannabis but no longer do, as these things GREATLY increase the shooting pain I get on the inside of my left arm. I have gone and done an EKG and it came back normal, the pain is never present as I am exercising but sometimes it may strike as I begin to increase my heart rate (and then disappearing) I HAVE noticed that in times of worry and anxiety, it is POSSIBLE the pain does get worst, but I have no way to tell. This is starting to become truly unbearable and I am scared shitless that I have heart disease. The pain can only be described as a GRABBING or HOOKING sensation when it comes to the pain in the left arm under the left armpit etc. and as a SHARP, sometimes DULL, STABBING pain all around the chest area, as well as on my back shoulders, and sometimes a very STRONG pain on my LEFT leg. Please doc, please tell me that there is no way a kid like already has heart disease? This pain is very real, and Nicotine makes it MUCH worst almost instantly. I appreciate your time and help, and I thank you in advance. Is it possible to have heart disease if I feel NONE of these symptoms when I am in the gym and working my heart at 150 BPM ? Only when resting....

Dear young,

At the outset, let me be clear to you that the symptoms presently manifesting are just nothing but the arousal from your mental conditions. All the symptoms are of the classic manifestations of anxiety and Psomatoform disorder.

Your unresolved emotional issues are finding no route for exit, thus manifesting itself as unspecified pains and uneasiness. You need an emotional release. Let me be more clear. Within a person, there are 04 conditions with regard to his relation of the self with society. (1) Self known to self and society (Free area), (2) Self known to society only (You need feedback or recognition from society) (3) Self known to self only (Hidden area) (You need to communicate with someone caring non judgementally, with whom you can confide. and the Final area is Self unknown to self and society(Take help from the Mental health professional for a revelation). Thus clearing the latter 03 areas enlisted above, you will be free to interact and accomodate necessary changes in your behaviour patterns which are befitting to you as well as to the society.

Get well soon !

Prayers,

Dr Rajesh, Rehabilitation Psychologist.
