Is Catheterization Advisable For Calcium Buildup On The Valve?

My wife is 69 and just had a CT scan of her heart which indicated she had calcium deposits which put her in the 79 percentile for her age. What does this mean and does it also mean she has a build up on the inside of the arteries? She is scheduled for a catherization next week. What can we expect?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, this means that she is at risk of coronary artery disease (CAD). Calcium score one CT angiography detects susceptibility of patient having coronary artery disease.
Higher the score, higher are the chances for ischemic heart disease (IHD).
So with 79 percentile calcium score, she should definitely be undergo conventional angiography. Possibility of double vessel occlusion is more likely.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
