Is Cataract Surgery Advisable In A Patient With Diabetes?

Hi Doctor,

My cousin (Age-54) is suffering from cataract and Diabetic retinopathy for quite a few months. But we came know about this last week. We have consulted Vasan Eye care and she got treatment for Diabetic retinopathy (Laser Treatment for 3 sittings). Her right eye is affected more where she is having a blur vision and now she is managing only with left eye. Doctors advised cataract operation can be operated only after the subside of sugar level. We just want know the second opinion.

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that your cousin is having diabetic retinopathy and cataract. Since he is treated for diabetic retinopathy by laser he can undergo treatment for cataract. Your doctor is right in advising treatment once the blood sugar levels are controlled.

Hope the information is helpful to you.
Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
