Is cataract surgery advisable in a patient with diabetes?
My cousin (Age-54) is suffering from cataract and Diabetic retinopathy for quite a few months. But we came know about this last week. We have consulted Vasan Eye care and she got treatment for Diabetic retinopathy (Laser Treatment for 3 sittings). Her right eye is affected more where she is having a blur vision and now she is managing only with left eye. Doctors advised cataract operation can be operated only after the subside of sugar level. We just want know the second opinion.
I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.
I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that your cousin is having diabetic retinopathy and cataract. Since he is treated for diabetic retinopathy by laser he can undergo treatment for cataract. Your doctor is right in advising treatment once the blood sugar levels are controlled.
Hope the information is helpful to you. Do write back to me for further questions.
Thank you With regards

I underwent cataract removal surgery and insertion of lenses in both my eyes in May 2013. In the right eye on opening the bandage in the evening the same day a lot of blood stuck to the bandage and for nearly two hours blood kept on oozing in small quantity. I consulted the doctor who described it as normal and advised not to worry. Now in January 2014 I am experiencing floaters and flashes of light . I consulted an eye specialist who checked my retina after dilating my eyes . He says that my retina has become weak.( I am a diabetic and hypertensive for the last 16 years. My question is 1) is any further advanced eye examination necessary and of what kind 2) is this sign of retinal detachment 3) what should I do now ( doctor prescribed lubricating drops and Neurobin - forte tablets) 3) can I have sudden vision loss and what precautions to take.

Tightening the Tummy Iam 51 years old and weigh 77kgs.Recently I have lost 6 kgs and my weight stabilized at 77 kgs which works out to a BMI of 25 as my height is 5’10”.I maintain regular exercise -aerobics,strength training, abdominal exercises and evening walk of 4 kms.I eat selectively without oil, less Non veg, less sweets, more fruit and water ,steamed vegetables,sprouts,Almonds(4 nos) and 1 egg white. When I go to gym I take whey protein of 30 gms. My problem is with my stomach muscles.Inspite of my exercise and moderate food habits I have a stomach of 36 inches. When I sit down I have to adjust my belt by changing the hole. When I wear underwear I feel very tight in abdominal area.Thats why I stopped wearing underwaear except when I exercise. I consulted a specialist who is into weight loss surgery like gastric band and sleeve who initially suggested to go for liposuction. When I requested for a non surgical solution he offered me a complimentary session on Radio frequency Tripolar machine. He promised that I will loose 2 inches over 6 sittings. For each sitting there should be a gap of 2 weeks. He says the skin also will be tightened apart from fat reduction in the tissues.I have also read that this can be done by Ultrasound Lipolysis and Zerona laser treatments. Please suggest me which is ideal for reducing my stomach sag.
