Is Bypass Surgery Recommended For Blocked Arteries In The Left Leg?

A vascular surgeon has suggested that my 71 year old husband requires bypass surgery as the arteries in his left leg are blocked (illiac artery) and a stint or angioplasty are not an option. My husband had a stroke in Jan. 2015. Should we get a second opinion and would he be at great risk of an additional stroke? Thank you.

Hi
One thing I want to tell you there is no chance of 2nd stroke.
As you mentioned that there is a clot or clogging or blocked one artery i.e. blood supply to that area is hampered .
While blocking is one thing whether it is in the heart artery or any other artery.
In your husband case in my opinion get one more opinion whether surgery is necessary or plain dilator will suffice .
Hope this information will be useful for your husband.
Further , if any question I will reply happily.
Good luck.
