Is Burning Sensation In Neck Caused Due To Pulled Trapezius?

Hello, About 2 weeks ago, I stretched and felt a burning sensation behind my ear and down my neck. A few days later I felt slight pain in my shoulder/trapezius area - then worked an 8 hour shift with weights. After that, my deltoid/shoulder has been swollen. Aside, when I press it feels like a ball that moves - and i recently had a semi-risky sexual encounter (protected sex, unprotected oral). The left side of my neck/face has a slight fatigue/pain. Is this all musclular, and just needs to heal? Or should I be worried about my lymph nodes? Could that be a sign of swelling instead of a pulled trapezius?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

Firstly, the initial symptoms were apparently due to a 'catch' in the neck muscle (sternoclidomastoid).

Subsequent symptoms- following workup with weights- may be due to either, 'pulled' muscles or, mild tear in the capsule of the shoulder joint seepage and collection of joint fluid in the form of a cyst.

In either case, rest to the shoulder joint and the concerned arm for 2-3 weeks and, a short course of anti-inflammatory drugs, such as, Ibuprofen + Paracetamol, along with a muscle relaxant, such as, Chlorzoxazone will give you complete relief.

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me. Let your doctor examine you to find the exact cause and prescribe the advised drugs in appropriate doses.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE ALL doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.
