Is Breast Implant Removal Required For A Mammogram?

Hi. I'm a 39 yr old woman and had breasts implants 9 yrs ago. I have to do my mammogram next year and was wondering if I will need to have them removed. For a few months now I have this sharp continuous pulsating pain in my left side of my upper back n I'm worried its my implants.

Hi,

Breast implants can interfere with mammogram images and decrease its ability to reveal the underlying breast diseases if any. Still they are the effective way to screen for breast cancer with breast implants. However there are less chance for the implant to rupture or leak during the mammogram process. I suggest you to go ahead with digital mammograms.

Inform the mammogram technician about the implants prior to the procedure, so that they can focus and take extra images as the implants might hide some breast tissue.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
