Is Bloody Stools With Mucous An Effect Of Hernia Mesh Repair?

Thank you. About 6 months ago I had a hernia repair (ingenial) that they repaired with mesh. Soon after, I began having blood and mucas in my stool along with stomach cramps and I need to go about 4-7 times a day. I have had a barium CT Scan with dye and it came back negative and I am now scheduled for a colonoscopy in a few weeks. I have had stool tests come back negative for parasites but my white blood count is up indicating an infection. Could this problem be due to an infection from the Hernia mesh repair?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of hernia mesh repair about 6 months ago, soon began with stomach cramps and need to go for 7-8 times per day, blood and mucus in stool, Barium studies negative, scheduled for colonoscopy, stool test negative for parasites but WBC count is up.
My thoughts:
This can not be due to mesh repair as the mesh would have been infected with sinus formation within a few days after surgery.
This looks to be due to intestinal infection hence go for culture of the stool.
Take a course of an antibiotic for a 5 day course.
Probiotics, activated charcoal may help.
Colonoscopy may help for further diagnosis and hence can be relied upon to get ta proper treatment.
Also think of colitis due to carious causes which the biopsy may help to.
I find this answer helpful
