Is Blood Spotting After Taking Prescribed Althea For PCOs Normal?

Hi Doc. I am 22 . my history is that I m always 3 months delayed and when Im having my period it lasted for about 10-15 days. I consulted my OB and after that I was diagnosed to have PCOS. She prescribed me to take Althea for 3 months. I just started 2 nights ago and experienced blood spotting. Is it okay? i have read review feedback of Althea and a bit scared with what they were saying of breakthrough bleeding or not having a period at all and having acne problems also. If ever Althea isn t good for me can I ask my OB to prescribed other pill?

Hello ma'am and welcome.

You need to first understand that PCOS results in a hormonal imbalance which is corrected with medication, and that is what this pill does for you. So, symptoms like spotting, acne are all due to the condition PCOS and not due to the pill. I would advise you not to believe everything these forums say, especially as these are non-medical personnel speaking.

Continue the pill for 3 months, but if you are not comfortable with it or are experiencing unexpected side effects then you can surely request for a change in prescription, your doctor will surely oblige.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
