Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am an active 38 year old maile. I have been lifting weights for 26 years. I have never taken steroids. my blood pressure is 140 over 93 and I would like some advice on how to take it down. I am already watching my sodium intake and exercising regularly. I am trying to avoid medication.
Hi. Welcome to HCM. Your BP falls in stage 1 hypertension, and remember that one BP recording does not diagnose u with hypertension. There should be at least 3 three BP recordings 1 week apart. If all readings are above 140/90 then u are hypertensive. Avoid salt, eat potassium rich foods like banana, avoid junk foods, exercise regularly for atleast 30-45 minutes per day, Practice meditation. Even after doing all these things if your BP is still high u may need medications after consulting your doctor. Dont hesitate to take medications because hypertension cannot be treated only by non pharmacological methods. Regards.
