Is Black To Blood Coloured Stool Normal After Vaginal Delivery?

I gave birth 5 days ago, vaginal delivery no complications. Pitocin for last centimeter and minimal epidural medicine as my blood pressure dropped when I was given it. Now for the past 3 days I have had very loose stools that are black and also have had bright red blood (not sure if that was from delivery still or if its something else) is this normal or do I need to go in?

Hello,
I have gone through the query and understood your concern. Black color in the stool can be due to ingestion of iron as food or medication or due to bleeding higher up in the gut. If you are also seeing fresh blood through the anus, you should suspect trauma to the lower end of the intestine. This could be due to the delivery process or through a fissure etc. This needs a proper clinical examination either by your gynecologist or a surgeon. Some amount of vaginal bleeding is normal after a delivery. Please maintain proper genital hygiene. Wish you good health.
