Is Bilateral Mastectomy Effective In The Treatment Of Breast Cancer?

I finished the six chemotherapy treatments. The doctor said the tumor has reduced to about 1 cm. and suggested that he will just remove the tumor and follow with 5 weeks of radiation . Originally, I plan to have bilateral mastectomy, but now I am confused. What do you think is good for me ?
