Is Alcohol Consumption Safe While On Lexipro?

I have been prescribed 5mg of Lexipro because of a family tragedy. I have never taken a drug like this & have not started yet. It says not to drink alcohol but really enjoy a glass of wine with dinner. If I take the drug in the morning is it safe to have a glass of wine in the evening?

I can understand your concern regarding the safety of alcohol while taking Lexapro.

Lexapro (Escitalopram) is an antidepressant used to treat anxiety & major depressive disorder in adults.

Taken together with alcohol it can increase nervous system side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, impairment in thinking and judgment.

You should therefore, avoid or limit the use of alcohol or alcohol containing beverages like wine, whisky, etc while taking Lexapro.
