Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Absence Of Menstrual Cycle Normal Post Contraceptive Injections?
I was taking the injection from the family planning clinic as contraception, but noticed I was gaining far too much weight. On the injection my periods stopped all together, must be 2 years now i haven t had a period. I have no been of the injection since October 2015 and have not yet had a period. I have the pains and feelings but nothing. Is this normal? Can I get a pill or medication that can encourage a period?
Hello, Absence of cycles post contraceptive measures is a known side effect. I would need details of the drug the you had been taking and your current age. Prescribing you a pill without knowing a complete history can be potentially dangerous to your health. With the available data all I can recommend is serum hormone levels (T3, T4, TSH, oestrogen, progestrone, FSH, LH) and and abdominal ultrasonography. Take care. Be well.
