Is A Sudden Outbreak Of Staph Infection A Possibility?

can staph still be transmitted even after years of no sign of outbreak? My ex father In law had obtained it during a hip transplant and is now being used as a baby sitter by the ex wife. My daughter has a piccline in her arm for antibiotics at the moment , how big of a risk would she be in being around someone who was a known infected person?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your query of staphylococcus outbreak, my advice is -
1. It doesnot appear years after the clinical infection appeared. So don't worry.
2. Only during the active infection for around 2-3 weeks, it is infective.
3. It is advisable to your father in law to apply mupirocin cream at the nostrils twice daily to remove carrier state of staphylococcus if present.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
