Hi Sarika

Congratulations! You are stepping into the most rewarding journey of the life, destination of which will be blissful parenthood. But another important aspect of fetal wellbeing s to look for the chromosomal or genetic problems that may be inherent and that can profoundly affect the quality of a life after birth. This is why every pregnant female has to go through certain tests.

As you gynecologist would already have told you about the Down Syndrome and requirement of Double marker test. Quadruple test is only advised if a woman has missed the double marker or in context of " Sequantial screen". Sequantial Screen is done when you have an intermediate risk for DS.

Quadruple is a screening test which will give more accurate idea of the risk of your baby having DS . It measures the amount of four hormones in your blood:  AFP  beta HCG  inhibin-A  oestriol. The amounts of these substances are combined with details of your age, weight and the gestational age of your pregnancy. From this information, a computer programme calculates the risk of your baby having DS. The level of AFP is also used to calculate if there is an increased risk of your baby having spina bifida.

For a happy pregnancy and healthy baby you should get done with Quadruple test.

Have a happy pregnancy and a healthy child.
