Is A Cyst On The Penis Shaft A Cause For Concern?

I have had a cyst in the area around my penis for many years, and did not think much about it, cause it was not growing, it was just a hard pea like lump. Now, it seem that the cyst has gotten bigger, and I am not too sure what needs to be done. I am going on vacation in a week and do not want to go to the doctor, unless this is something that you feel cannot wait.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,
Understand your concern.

If it is not change in color, pain sensitivity,no blood: it is harm less.
If it is associated with pain and increased size you should consult the doctor.
But you have to examine it repeatedly.
Following are the causes of your problem:
1. Fordyce spots/sebaceous gland cyst
These are tiny brown/red spots, found on the head of the penis or the shaft.
They are normal minute sebaceous glands and are just part of the natural structure of many penises.
There's absolutely no need for any treatment.
2. Lymphocele
3. Genital wart

For safer side you should consult the doctor and do necessary test for STD and cyst.

Hope this may help you.
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
