Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 4.5 year survivor of Stage 1N0M0 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I recenty had a PET/CT scan which showed hyper metabolic activity in 5 lymph nodes. I am scheduled for a CT guided needle biopsy of the largest of the subpectoral nodes (1.9 x 1.5 cm) tomorrow. Is contrast used during the CT? Is this a fine needle, or core biopsy needle typically used?
Yes, the contrast is very useful in such situation, no worries. I think this is an excisional biopsy in which they will remove one of the lymph nodes and send it for biopsy. It is the only way to see of what origin those lymph nodes are.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Jolanda Nikolla, Pulmonologist
