Is A Statin Drug Necessary Having Received Satisfactory Cholesterol Results?

My internist prescribed a statin drug although my cholesterol is in a good range. Right away my liver hurt and I read the drug interactions that said this could happen. He should be aware that I have liver damage from a hepatitis C infection I fought off a seven years ago. I quit taking the drug after a week on it and I felt better right away. Should I tell him?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern. Statins can produce liver enzymes in a small percentage of people. A recent study showed that there was no difference in this enzyme elevation between those who had hepatitis C and those who did not.
I think you should inform your internist regarding what you have done and why. He will reassess your condition and decide whether you should be on statin therapy or not.
Take care
I am available if you have further queries.
