Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am ~68 year old WM and have a 9mm single gallstone. I have minor to moderate intermittent URQ pain but mostly only if I eat a full meal. (Symptoms appeared during Christmas holiday after multiple dinners.) I treat upper GI discomfort with Prilosec when it occurs. There is no gallbladder wall thickening or pericholecystic fluid. Bile ducts are not dilated. Common bile duct measures 0 .3 cm. I take 10mg Crestor daily. I do upper body exercises daily which sometimes compress abdomen but with no discomfort or tenderness. I don t think this rock will block bile duct given size differences. Am concerned about future infection or more serious problem developing. Would like to keep the organ but am not sure it is smart at my age.
Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern. Any gallstone is an indication for surgery unless the patient is unfit for anaesthesia like severe cardiopulmonary compromise. All the drugs given for dissolution of stones are not that much effective as they are claimed. Gallstone leads to acute infection like choleystitis or chronic like empheyma. It can cause sepsis. Also it can lead to perforated gallbladder, gangrene and abcess formation. Hope it helps best. Don't forget to rate this answer and close the discussion at Healthcare Magic. Take your best care. Regards Dr Ejaz
