Is TSH Being Over 800 A Cause For Concern?

My TSH was 490 about 4 months ago. Then two months ago it was over 800. Yet my personal doctor has not seemed concerned. I do have problems with lack of energy. But I am being treated only for very low testosterone and very low vitamin D. Also, I am taking risperdal and depakote for BP (also taking Wellbutrin). Should I also be concerned about a hypo thyroid condition?

Hi,

The value of TSH you have mentioned is very high and denotes an under active thyroid gland. Thyroid hormones are not produced sufficiently. Thyroid auto-antibodies, Free T3 and T4 levels should be tested to identify any autoimmune thyroiditis. Lipid profile and vitamin D levels should also be measured since any increase in these values can also affect thyroid function.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
