Hi I am on Sprintec birth control and I have been taking it correctly without missing a dose for 3 weeks and Today I take my first sugar pill. My boyfriend and I had sex with a condom but some "errors" occurred that are making me worried I could be at risk of being pregnant. I would just like to know when Sprintec starts becoming effective in preventing pregnancy. Am I protected?
Hi, Any oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) become effective from the first cycle you start taking. But again the start of action depends on which day of your cycle you stated taking. If started on the first day of cycle i.e. the day you have your period, it is effective for the whole cycle. If you start within the fifth day, you have to use an alternative method preferably any barrier contraceptive for a week's time. Since you finished the cycle, you can be tension free. Good day!
