Is Sizodon Advisable For ADHD And Dyslexia In A Child?

My son 6 years old has ADHD and dyslexia. Doctor prescribed Sizodone 0.5 once every night; alongwith two other Mentat 1 tsp at morning and 0.5 tsp at night, and Cobadex (5ml). How safe is sizodone for a 6 yr old? Are there any substitute remedies without the use of drugs?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Sizodon is Risperidone and the drug is a second generation antipsychotic drug. The drug is used in various psychiatric conditions. It has been found to be useful in reducing impulsive behaviour, improving focus in patients of ADHD. The drug is commonly used by child psychiatrists for ADHD and also in dyslexic children. Over all the drug is safe to use. The drug causes sedation, increased appetite, drowsiness, weight gain in normal doses. In high doses risk of EPS (Extra Pyramidal Symptoms) is there. His dose of drug that is 0.5 mg per day is fine and no need to worry. Please give him drugs as per prescription only.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
