Is Simcor Better Than Lipitor For High Cholesterol?

last DRs visit my physician took blood (not fasting) in the PM and my results were Cholesterol 174/Triglyceride 153/HDL 50/ LDL calc 93. I have been on liptor for around 15 years. I am 55, overweight, exercise regularly, drink socially, don't smoke,, no high blood pressure or sugar. Usually when I test fasting the cholesterol reading is closer to 150.

The doctor wants me to switch my prescription from lipitor to Simcor(sp? has niacin I think). Not sure why. Wouldn't say. It is a more expensive drug. Is it better than Lipitor? Will I be better off for taking it? Are my test results bad enough to necesitate a change in plan? I have not been to this doctor but twice due to a job relocation. What is your opinion?

Hi There

After going through the details provided by you i would like to say if i would have been your treating doctor i would suggest to continue with LIPITOR as your all the type cholesterol levels are just borderline high. And i dont see any need of adding one more lipid lowering agent ( as SIMCOR contains SIMVASTATIN and NIACIN both). Rather i would like to advise you to watch closely what all you are eating and maintain your healthy life style habits.

Good Luck
