Is Septra The Right Medicine For Ear Infection?

My son had an ear infection a couple weeks ago, he was prescribed septra and was on it for 14 days. He just began to complain of ear pain again. His ear is very tender to touch and kept him up in the night. I took him to the dr yesterday but he said his ear was clearing up good; however he is still complaining of it and I also noticed behind his ear is a little red. What could be wrong!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if Septra the right medicine for ear infection . which seems to be due to fungal infection, wax build up, fluid accumulation, eustachian tube dysfunction and systemic disease infection.

Well Septra contains a combination of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim are are both antibiotics that treat different types of infection caused by bacteria including ear infection , so you can take this medicine for ear infection.

But i would suggest you to consult ENT specialist before taking this medicine . For now apply dry warm compresses on ear and keep it dry , cover it while bathing .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
