Is Selzic 150mg Safe For Convulsion In A Child?

My Son who is 4+ years old. On 27 th March 2011 night he became senseless and started vomitting. I consulted child specialist and according to him it was convulsion. He prescribed Valparin 200 to be given for 3 years (5ml twice) non stop. I also consulted neurologist and he prescribed Selzic 150mg(1 tab in the morning and 1 at night) for 1st week and thereafter (1 tab in the morning and 2 tab at night). I am now confused which medicine to give to my child.

Pediatrician 's  Response
the selection of the anticonvulsant is based on the type of seizures, age and EEG findings
I recommend to follow a pediatric neurologist who will monitor the effects of the drug , the side effects and the level of the drug in the blood stream
most neurologists will not treat the 1st seizure and will not request an EEG either , but will do so of it happens more than one time , and usually the drug is given over 2 years
I hope this helps
