Is ROSE Procedure A Good Option For A Person With Knee Replacement Surgery?

I had gastric bypass surgery 3 years ago, lost 85 pounds, but couldn t exercise anymore due to the arthritis in my knee. I had knee replacement surgery last year and have since gained back over half of the weight I had lost. Is the ROSE procedure a good option for me?

Hello and welcome to HCM.
The ROSE procedure is a new option and you would qualify based on what you told me. This time, along with surgical diet restrictions, you must try to eat as if you had a blood sugar problem.

Go into this procedure, if you decide to do so, with an exercise plan made out ahead of time for things you can do to get your heart rate up. Arm exercises, swimming, bed exercises, and I suggest you spend some time in physical therapy developing a routine to follow.

If you are desperate enough to have a revision because you stopped exercising, you need motivation to make positive changes in your lifestyle that you can maintain so this does not occur again. The more times you yo-yo, the more difficult it becomes each time to take the weight back off.

My best wishes to you. Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
