Is Qvar Drug Recommended For Toddlers?

Hi I am Roopali Agrawal. My daughter who is 3 years old, is suffering from fever and coughing from last 3 days. I took her to a doctor who said that she has bronchiolitis caused by virus. she advised us to give her QVAR 40 mcg and albuterol along with Tylenol. Is it Ok to give QVAR which is a steroid to a 3 yr old kid?

Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern.
Steroids are not contraindicated in kids. we are giving it to kids with 21-Hydroxlayse enzyme deficiency, nephrotic syndrome and HSP etc.
As long as Bronchiolitis is concerned, which is caused by respiratory synctial virus, the role of steriods is controversial.
Only hydration, supplemental oxygen if oxygen saturation is less than 90 percent has proven role.
Palivizumab is used for prophylaxis in selected cases. Brochodilator should be used only if patient responds. Avoid dust inhalation and passive smoking.
Hope it helps best.
