Is Prolia Effective In The Treatment Of Osteoporosis?

I am due to have my Prolia injection (for osteoporosis) this week, however, early in July I had a bad case of shingles & still suffer from pain, itching & irritation from the shingles site. Should I still have the Prolia injection at this time please?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Denosumab is a monoclonal antibody used for the treatment of osteoporosis. It is quite effective and you can continue the injections. Previous attacks of shingles doesn't have any relation with Prolia.

Wishing all the best.

Thanks.
