Is Ponstan Advisable To Delay Periods?

Hi Today is my first day of periods and I have started taking Ponstan Forte 500 mg to stop my periods. I am actually travelling for a Holy trip to Mecca and I can t be menstrating. My concern is how many days will it take to stop my periods? Or is there any other effective tablet for it to stop? I have 2 more days in hand to stop it! Please advise soon

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Ponstan (Mefenamic acid) is useful only in reducing pain related to dysmenorrhoea.
It does not stop bleeding. Also, there is really no medicine which can stop the menstrual flow once it has started.
There are some hormones which are given a week before to postpone the period.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
