Is Phenoxymethylpenicillin Tablet The Right Medicine For Tonsillitis?

I have been diagnosed with tonsilitus and my GP has prescribed me phenoxymethylpenicillin which I started taking this morning. I am in lot of pain and upon looking at my throat a moment ago it appears that the white goo on my tonsils has turned black. Can you tell me why this has happened, should I be concerned?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from Follicular Tonsillitis and the white substance on tonsils seems to be pus..
As you started taking medication there is a possibility that there has been initiation of healing and pus pockets started shrinkage in size and there is only the top covering of the pus pockets is left and it is leading to dark spots..
You should not worry about it and continue taking antibiotics as Phenoxymethylpenicillin is suitable for bacterial throat infection..
For pain you can take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil or Motrin..
Do warm saline gargles and steam inhalation..
Avoid spicy food and drink plenty of water..
Suck throat lozenges and chew a Vitamin C pellet..
