Is Phenobarbital Effective In The Treatment Of Itching All Over The Body?

I was just looking into phenobarbital, I know it s a narcotic, I was speaking to a GI. Specialist I went to school with many years ago. To make a long story short, he stated that he gave this medications to his patients for itch. I have had an all over body itch for 4 yrs now and it is quite intense. I have even been to Mayo twice, no help at all. I have a complex case, nausea has been persistent for about the same amount of time. I plan to ask my doctors about this as I have this itch, puritis, and am seeing autoimmune docs as well. Have you ever heard of phenobarbital helping relieve itch. Thank u .

Phenobarbital is a dangerous drug and not advisable to start it on your own. You can consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.
