Is Pentoxifylline Effective In The Treatment Of Neuropathy?

Was just prescribed PENTOXIFYLLINE 400 mg ER for neuropathy (am not diabetic) by a foot doctor that I think is a result of a back injury from 1977. I despise taking medications and want to know how this is going to help and if it is safe. I take high blood pressures meds as well as 12.5mg Zoloft and 1 mg lorazepam (night for sleep) and I currently use a 12.5 mcg transdermal patch every 72 hours to ease back pain. Since there are so many causes of neuropathy and really no cure I just want to make sure this is the right way to go. I have had an ulcer in the past so can no longer take any ibuprofen and I am not tolerant of high doses of caffeine. Can you help me? Thank you!

I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

Pentoxifylline is the drug used to treat peripheral vascular diseases.

However recent research studies shows promising results in diabetic neuropathy.

It improves microcirculation and there by prevent ischemic damage caused by diabetes.

As damage which already occurred is not reversed by it will not cure the disease.

This is just preventive measure of stopping further damage.
