Is Norvasc A Safe Drug?

Hi I am trying to figure out if my mother should take her regularly prescribed norvasc dose, because she had a reaction to Norco, which she was given to her for pain today, & she felt nauseaus, dizzy and vomited, after taking it. Now, she is afraid of taking the norvasc, as she does regularly????

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since your mother is allergic to Narco (opioids) then she should not take opioids. Discuss it with your treating doctor so that the prescribed medicines can be replaced with medicines that suit your mother better. Side effects of Norvasc is nausea, feeling tired, dizziness, drowsiness, stomach pain, heart palpitations, etc. If your mother is experiencing such symptoms then the treating doctor should be informed.

You may visit ER for immediate medical care and urgent management. In case of any liver problems or heart diseases (valve problem / AS), the treating doctor should be informed before taking Norvasc to ensure safety. She may be prescribed any other medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
