Is Lomotil Advisable When Diagnosed With Vomiting And Diarrhea?

Hello my son has picked up a stomach bug and we are on vacation in Thailand. We had all our immunisations ie havrix, vivotif etc but he has still developed vomiting and diarrhoea.I have maxalon and lomotil but not sure whether he will keep it down or prolong the issue. Do you advise we take the medication and if so how long does it take to work? ie how long does he need to have it in his stomach for it to start working or do you suggest riding it out maintaining hydration?

Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Based on the description, it appears that your son is suffering from acute gastroenteritis.
It would be better to avoid giving Lomotil for such a condition.
Kindly do the following to overcome it.
1. Give Tablet.Domperidone 30 minutes before intake of food to avoid vomiting. Once vomiting comes to control, it can be stopped.
2. Give a course of oral antibiotics Tablet. Ornidazole with Ofloxacin after food.
3. Give soft easily digestible foods in small quantities but more frequently.
4. To avoid dehydration, give good quality of water, fresh fruit juices, butter milk and tender coconut.
Gradually, he should overcome it and be back to normal.
