Is Invokana An Effective Substitute For Acarbose?

I am currently taking Byetta (3 shots/day @ 5mcg) along w/Acarbose twice daily (25 mcg).Is Invokana a substitute for Acarbose?I do have type !! diabetes.Which is the preferred medication.I also recently learned that my insurance will no longer pay for Byetta and I will have to switch to either Byduron or Victoza.Thanks

Invokana(Canagliflozin),recently FDA approved drug for treating type 2 diabetes which is relatively safe and also more effective than other conventional oral anti-diabetic drugs.This drug can be used either as a single agent or along with other oral hypoglycemic drugs(with adjusted dose) for control of diabetes along with diet and exercise.Acarbose is known to cause GI distress and also may affect the liver function.So Invokana would be a preferred option.
