Is IVF Reliable For Conception?

Hello, I am 41 years old. I just got a fresh transfer and 12th day test result was negative. I have 2 frozen embryos. After the first transfer my friend, who d been thru this whole thing few times, suggested some things for the next time with my frozen ones. First of all, she said that frozen embryo and relaxed womb is a better idea than fresh transfer. She also suggested COQ10 3-4 months before the next transfer. I know that doesn t hurt to take it, but does it help for my next transfer since that egg did not have any of that vitamin in it? Also, what else would you suggest? For my age, I m in good and healthy shape. I chose to do IVF because I don t have an husband or boyfriend, and I didn t want to lose more time waiting for the right guy. I did that thru a sperm bank. I had high hopes that it would be positive. Of course there is an age indication here. However, all the tests I did in advance were promising. Please advise anything you can according to my situation, and I thank you in advance for your time. Best, Harika Timur

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Madam Harika Timur,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Invitro fertilization (IVF) is a good and reliable option for conception. However, there are several factors which would determine the success of the procedure.
1. Quality and Quantity of egg (ovum).
2. Quality of sperms (should be without any intrinsic defects).
3. Quality of embryo and its progress towards development.
4. Preparation of uterus for receiving the embryo and possibility of its implantation. Many a times, advancing age could be one of the limiting factor for this factor.
5. Following proper advise post-procedure pertaining to rest, diet and medications.
If most of these factors goes well, there would be more chances for success of conceiving from IVF procedure.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
