Hi,

Intravenous merrem (meropenem) is found to be effective against the infections caused by gram-negative bacteria bacteria such as klebsiella and morganella and hence commonly prescribed. Further, there is no documented evidence of any cross reactivity between merrem and penicillin hence it may be taken safely even if you are allergic to penicillin.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
