Is Hydroxychloroquine Effective In The Treatment Of Rheumatoid Arthritis?

I have been told by my rheumatologist that I have precursor to RA and have one joint swollen and effected. I also have fibromyalgia and possibly early thyroid issues (all auto immune). She wants me to take hydroxychloroquine and then short term prognason. I am terrified of these. What are the risks of these drugs and does hydroxychloroquine help prevent RA development?

Hi! Arthritic pain, the most severe ones of all isn't it?! Thanks to our drugs. We can be relieved of it.

Hydroxychloroquine is one of the best drugs for arthritis. At a dose of 200 mg they are very safe and have shown minimal side effects. Of course minor side effects such as dyspepsia, bloating, nasuea are temporary and need no medications as they are resolved as the body adapts to the drug. It is the least potential of all the DMARDS used in treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Hence you can be sure about the safety and efficacy of this drug. Of course if any major adverse effects, rarely seen to occur, you must reach your doctor and inform the same.
