Is HbA1c Level Of 5.3 A Cause For Concern?

I just got my latest a1c results along with lipids and kidney function tests. A1c is 5.3, lipids ALL normal! Kidney function down slightly. I've been on 2000 mg metformin and 1.2 dose of victoza. My doc wants me to stop ALL METFORMIN and increase victoza to 1.8. What do you think?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
HbA1c level of 5.3 is normal. HbA1c level of even 6-7 is acceptable in patient with diabetes. So you had good glucose levels in blood over past 3 months. Your doctor has asked you to stop metformin intake & victoza injection to 1.8 dose.
Actually, metformin is usually not the original cause of kidney problems. However, metformin is eliminated by the kidneys and when a patient has poor kidney function, the metformin can build up in the blood and cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis. Therefore your doctor has stopped givings metformin to you.

Refer to your physician
Hope this information helps
