General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
GBS is an autoimmune disease where body's immune system develop antibodies against some part of nervous system.
So nerve gets inflamed and symptoms of muscle weakness on both sides occur..

There is no cure for this disease but Treatment is aimed at presenting symptoms, preventing complications and helping in recovery.
Initially plasmapheresis helps to remove those auto antibodies..
Prevention of development of respiratory problems is taken care of..
Physical therapy to aid in recovery of weakened muscles..
So symptomatic treatment is possible.
Hope this helps.
