Yes my mom is 85 years old weighs 84 pounds She receantly had shingles 6 months ago The doctor put her on 1500mlgs of gabapentin she is still taking this Is this not a little to much for a little woman she now has the shakes real bad Could this be doing this to her ?
This is certainly an important question. Gabapentin is certainly a reasonable therapy for nerve pain after shingles, and 1500 mg is a usual adult dosage. I need a little bit more information, though:
Are her kidneys or liver functions normal (did they test it lately?) Gabapentin dosage should be adjusted depending on the Creatinine Clearance. Is she still in pain? Did she have the shakes before she started on the gabapentin? So did it make it worse or did it start anew? What else is she taking in medicines?
I certainly would talk to your physician about gradually and carefully lowering the dosage. If bloodwork has not been done recently, it should be done and the dosage adjusted, if necessary.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
