Is Gabapentin Necessary Post A Total Knee Replacement Surgery?

Why was I prescribed Gabapentin 300 MG capsule for a total knee replacement to be taken twice daily for 30 days and it is NOT indicated as needed ? So I am assuming that I must take them until gone. I am also taking Oxycodone 5 mg and Methocarbamol 500 mg, 4 and 6 hours respectively, but they are indicated as needed .

Hello,

Gabapentin is given for neuropathic pain after knee replacement.

If you are not experiencing much pain, you can withhold gabapentin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
