Is Felodipine Safe And Effective In Treatment Of Hypertension?

I just started taking felodipine 2.5 mg. I was diagnosed with early stage hypertension, (bp range 134/80 - 140/90). I am shocked that I was diagnosed with this. I am a very active 57 year old. What can I expect from this drug? I am very energetic and love to work out...especially running after work. Will this drug bog me down? I m scared I will gain weight and get bloated. Is that likely to happen? I can t handle being lethargic...is that likely?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
dear,
first of all there is no need to worry since ur blood pressure range is well within pre hypertensive stage , according to latest edition of harrison.
secondly this medication is a very low dose well tolerated medication for b.p. but i will suggest that with dietary modification u can very well reduce ur blood pressure, like low salt / high fibre/low fat-oil/ high complex carbs and a lot of exercise and thus u can control ur b.p. easily and that also witout medication.
hope my answer will help u.
thanks
