Is FBS Of 79 A Cause For Concern?

My 8yr old daughter has been wetting this week and has had multiple accidents at school. She didn t show any white blood cells in her urine sample but did show protein. She has been complaining of stomach aches quite often and it is accompanied with diarrhea. Her doctor believes its constipation but she eats a high fiber diet and we are always on her about drinking water because we live in the desert and its a must. My concern is that I, her mother, am a type 1 diabetic and wonder if there is any cause for concern. I did check her fasting blood glucose this morning and it was 79 so that is normal.

Hi,

Fasting blood glucose of 79mg/dl is taken to be normal as the reference range is between 70 to 100mg/dl.

You can check her Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels to ensure glucose homeostasis is under control.

Kindly consult your doctor with the report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Hi,

Fasting glucose of 79 mg% is normal. Reference range for glucose in fasting state is 70 to 100 mg%.

Since type 1 diabetes involves an inherited susceptibility to developing the disease, if a family member has (or had) type 1, the risk is much higher.

It should be noted that if the father has type 1 diabetes, the risk of a child developing it as well is slightly higher than if the mother or sibling has type 1 diabetes.

Kindly check fasting glucose along with Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels once in 3 months to note if there are many variations. If you find the values are indicating higher than normal, kindly consult Physician or Diabetologist for evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
