Is Erythromycin Safe To Take Despite Being Allergic To It?

Hi, I m allergic to erythromycin but the reaction is minor so I was wondering if I can just take it less often? I m also allergic to minocycline, it gave me really bad hives all over my body. It took two weeks to build up in my system to give me that reaction. I had to go to the hospital in fear of my throat closing up. Erythromycin only have me a couple small hives on my legs but after a few days they went away.

Hello,
I can understand your concern.
You should not take any antibiotics that you are allergic to.
Allergic or anaphylactic reactions can be potentially life threatening if not dealt with immediately.
Even if the last reaction was a minor one, subsequent reactions can be severe.
i would advise you not to take any medications on your own and inform you doctor at all times about your hypersensitivity to medications.

Hope this clarifies your doubt.
Thanks for choosing HCM.
