Is Epi-pen Advisable For Allergic Reaction Towards Nuts?

I have always been allergic to peanuts and a few tree nuts. My reaction to nuts are only when I ingest them, and the worst it has been is just mild itching in the throat. I am attempting to be qualified to serve in the military, but have been disqualified. I believe that I was disqualified because when I was younger, my doctor prescribed me an Epi-Pen. Do I really need an Epi-Pen for my minor allergic reaction (the itching in the back of the throat goes away with Benadryl)?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain epi-pen contain Epinephrine that is commonly advised to patients who are having severe allergic reaction..
In case if you are allergic to nuts that cause throat itching and there are no signs of breathlessness or choking you need not to worry as it is not severe..
You can first of all avoid taking nuts as it will not lead to allergic reaction..
Other thing is that if there is a reaction you can take Oral Benadryl or Levocetrizine to relieve itching..
You can also consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can instil an Immunotherapy after complete evaluation to avoid severity of allergic reaction..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
