General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Based on the history your daughter seems to be suffering from pinworm infection.

Enterogermina is not effective in the treatment of pinworm infection.
It is a probiotic (beneficial bacteria) which is commonly prescribed when we think of altered gut flora causing a problem or to treat antibiotic associated diarrhea.

Had I been her treating doctor I would have prescribed her a single oral dose of Albendazole or Pyrantel pamoate for the eradication of the pinworms. Since one dose is not sufficient to kill the pinworm eggs, a second dose to be repeated after two weeks.

These medications are available without prescription.

Since this is a contagious disease, hence all the family members be treated at the same time.

Besides you need to have certain precautions to prevent the spread of infection or re-infection like:

1. Good hygiene practices such as washing the hands with soap and warm water after using the toilet, changing diapers, and before handling food.

2. The fingernails of your daughter should be trimmed and see that she avoids biting the nails and scratching around the anus.

3. Frequent changing of under garments and bed linens should be done. These items should not be shaken and carefully placed into a washer & laundered in hot water followed by a hot dryer to kill any eggs that may be there.

4. She should be given bath every morning to help remove a large amount of the eggs on the skin. Showering is a better method than taking a bath, because showering avoids potentially contaminating the bath water with pinworm eggs. Infected people should not co-bathe with others during their time of infection.

Hope the advice given above would be useful to all.
